Led by Roger Martinez, our Sports Science team aim to achieve 3 main goals:
Firstly, player availability. To achieve their best performance, a player needs to train and play, which is not possible if the player gets injured. This is why injury prevention is paramount at our Academy, with pre and post training routines, but also Injury Management, for when the player unfortunately sustains an injury, a strict injury protocol comes in play, including individualised rehabilitation and a safe return to play to minimise the risk or re-injury.
The second main goal is to develop the player physically. This links with the individual development plans, where areas of strength and improvement are identified. Also, for the younger age groups, we deliver a Physical Education program to create good habits from the start. Additional physical training is offered to our players, through our Breakthrough Programs.
Finally, our team aims to keep our players as fit as possible for the present day and to enhance their performance. Our football sessions are designed to hit the fitness targets, and our Strength and Conditioning team are in direct contact with the coaches to ensure this. Also, a strength program is in place for our Juniors, to assist them as they walk their path towards Senior football, building their body to transition from boys to men.
